Introducing Yuri
The latest addition to my team. Yuri will bring a “from the streets” Brazilian point of view to the newsletter plus a just starting out perspective to our community.
Hello, dear reader friends. I'm Yuri and I'm traveling and learning about everything from Chet. I'm from Olinda - Pernambuco, I'm 32 and I'm currently studying Software Engineering.
We all have many plans and dreams. Every day we are happy or frustrated with almost everything that happens around us. However, whenever something goes wrong, we can learn important lessons.
I used to live in a city in the interior of Sergipe (here in Brazil) and one day, I resigned from my job as a salesman, left everything and returned to Pernambuco, starting my journey through Recife.
On the first day of arrival, a surprise: the hostel had not confirmed my reservation and indicated another place closer so that I could stay. Once there, another surprise: the daily rate was 4 times more expensive than the first hostel.
As I had nothing to do, I stayed, rested and the next day found a cheaper place to stay. It was at the Cosmopolitan Hostel that I met our friend Chet.
At first, we didn't talk much. Then we talked and tried to understand each other in our own way. We took walks together, laughed a lot, and had drinks a few times too.
Chet needed to travel to a city called Goiana, which is here in Pernambuco. When my money was low, I left Cosmopolitan Hostel and, until then, I had managed to volunteer at a hostel in the city where I was born, Olinda.
Arriving there, another surprise: they canceled my volunteering, as there was another person in front of me in the waiting line. I stood there, helpless, not knowing what to do. I talked to Chet as I was totally broke and he helped me.
I went back to Recife and stayed at the liveliest hostel I've ever seen in my life.
That's it for now, folks. If you're curious to know the rest of the next chapters of my life and travels, subscribe to the blog or, please, make a donation. Any value is very welcome and helps and encourages us to continue the project. Thanks for reading this far.
See you later. xx
What to expect (Chet’s perspective)
Yuri and I bonded pretty quickly. God has been telling me that He has been preparing someone to help me. God had given me a specific to question watch for as a sign. Within a couple of days, Yuri, completely out of the blue popped that exact question. I asked God to confirm, which He and Yuri did the following day. We sat down and starting getting to know each other. Within a couple of days, Yuri had checked every box God had given me to confirm. Yuri has had a very rough time recently. In fact, I am pretty sure most of his life has been pretty hard. The faith I have seen him demonstrate in the face of adversity doesn’t come easily.
Yuri will be helping provide a “from the streets” Brazilian point of view to my newsletter and projects. Yuri will be helping out with some of the non-technical aspects of our digital marketing. He will give an interesting “starting from ground zero” perspective in our new Travel Create Inspire community, which is a benefit of our paid subscription.
